Run Rule to Rename Email and Add to Tasks

I have a rule that runs when a message with certain text in the subject is present. It creates a task from that email. I would like to run the rule (possible use of script) as that message enters my outlook 2010 inbox that will delete a certain number of characters from the beginning of the subject line, and then add to Tasks. Is this possible?

Yes, it's possible. See Parsing text fields in Outlook - Slipstick Systems - are your stripping things like RE:, [name] and know exactly how many characters you need to strip?

you'd use something like this:

item.subject = right(item.subject, Len(item.subject) - 6)
 
Yes, I am stripping text like that from the beginning of the subject line. It would be 54 characters alltogether. I'm fairly new to this, so how and where would I exactly input that string?

Are you using VBA to create the task? I thought that was what you were already doing this using Create a Task from an Email using a Rule - Slipstick Systems or something similar.

Assuming that script, replace

objTask.Subject = objMail.Subject

with

objTask.subject = right(objMail.Subject, Len(objMail.Subject) - 6)
