Outlook Logging

Hi. I have Office 365 for Enterprise (Version 2202 Build 16.0.14931.20128) 64-bit

My computer had slowed on boot where after a restart or start from power off when the windows dots stop spinning, there is a 18 second black screen to the login screen. It is Win 10 21H2. I do not have fast startup turned on.

I tried chkdsk and sfc and all was fine.

I then deleted the temp files in this folder:

C:\Users\myprofile\AppData\Local\Temp\

But I did not delete the files in "Outlook Logging" which had around 35,000 files totaling around 3GB. Files dates started July 2021 when I first setup this computer.

No change in the delay.

I then deleted a third of the files in "Outlook Logging" and the delay dropped to 12 seconds.

I then deleted temp files in the Outlook Logging prior to 3/1/22 and the delay dropped to 5 seconds which is comparable to a new similar system I just setup and have not installed Office 365 yet.

Any idea why these temp Outlook Files would cause this?

Most of the temp file start with "SearchProtocolHost_7_0_19401_"

I do not have logging enabled in the Outlook settings.

Any way to stop the logging or automatically clean it up?

I have no idea why they caused outlook to start slowly but they should self-delete as they age past 5 days.

I have a reg key that can disable logging of most files - but not the search ones.

You can also add DisableDefaultLogging keys for Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

thanks for the reply. It is not outlook starting slowly, it slowed down booting windows. I confirmed deleting these temp files gets rid of the delay on windows boot on two computers.

Is outlook set to load automatically?

yes. Outlook runs ok. It is just the outlook logs do not auto delete and caused a delay in windows boot. From a cold start, when windows boots there are spinning dots under the Dell logo. the dots stop spinning and the screen goes black before the login screen. On a fresh install, the black screen is there for 4 or 5 seconds. On one machine it was 18 seconds and anther it was 45 seconds. I deleted the outlook logging temp files and on these two machines it went to around 5 seconds.

Outlook is starts normally, it not set to start automatically.

Try the registry keys... it won't help with the search* etl files. Hopefully deleting them will fix the self-deletion problem.
