Outlook Data File Column Empty

Hello,

I am using Outlook Classic.

In my Inbox, in the View Settings, I added an "Outlook Data File" column to my Inbox view.

That column remains empty. Only the Heading is there. Rebooting Outlook didn't change anything.

What am I missing?

I can confirm that for every Account/View I checked (Exchange, IMAP, POP) the "Outlook Data File" column is always blank.

Microsoft Copilot tells me that this is a known limitation, but can not cite any official sources.

Closest thing I can find is the "Email Account" column.
 
It used to work but hasn't in a very long time (maybe 10 years?) - could be related to the Outlook version. Or, it only works with the old PST format. I don't have an old PST handy to confirm though.

I asked Microsoft about it, but don't recall exactly when or if they said it was intentional.
 
Just FYI. I got curious.

Tested in Outlook 2010. It's blank there as well. (Gotta give it to Microsoft for backward compatibility).
Not a MAPI Property that OutlookSpy knows about, and I couldn't find anything doing a search.
Can be derived from the Item Object, obviously, via the StoreId. Stupid just doesn't choose to expose it.
