MS Outlook VBA: Get the reply date and time.

Hi -

I have a database that records all incoming emails. Now, I want to determine what date and time an email was replied and put in the database so that I can have the duration for time the email was received and replied.

Can anyone please give me an idea?or point me to the right direction. I is greatly appreciated.

Hi Diane...

In the ms access database i have the message id as the unique identifier of the email received. And when the user reply to the email, and sends the reply.. im trying to catch and match the message id of the email being sent (thinking that the message id is still the same) to what is in the database so that i can determine which email is being replied to and get the time but its giving me null.. How do i determine which email is being replied to when the user clicks the send button?

Can you please give me an idea... I'm pretty new to vba in ms outlook...

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Hello Diane,

I understand now that the reply will have a new message ID. I'm lost.. really lost.. How do I get the those numbers that you posted from outlook?

Did anything ever come of this? I'm currently trying to figure out the same thing and stumbled across this thread. This is the closest thing to an answer I've found so far!
 
The IDs shown above are available in the message header. You can use the PropertyAccessor to read the PR_TRANSPORT_MESSAGE_HEADERS_W property.

That header, however, is added to a message after it was sent. It's not available when you click the Send button.

I think the most reliable solution acts already when you click the Reply button. Then you know the message you reply to.

Identifying a message isn't easy. Either you use the EntryID, which is unique but gets changed when you move the message, or you use the SearchKey, which never changes but cannot be unique (if you copy the message, the SearchKey will be copied, too).
