Not sure how to post that question but maybe this will help. Let me re-write this. It's actually the AOL account that does not show an envelop. I realize there's a simple explanation for this but I must be sub-simple to understand it. Please advise.

are they all in one profile? There is typically only one icon for new mail in any account... if you mean, if that account is the only one with new mail and the icon doesn't come up, are the new messages going into the inbox or do you use rules to move the mail to other folders? If the mail is moved on the server, it won't trigger the new mail alert.

The following profiles are set up on this computer ... one is called New and the second is Outlook. As to them being all in one profile, I wouldn't have a clue. I'm less than a novice when it comes to the guts (pardon, I mean the tummy) of this stuff.

Based on the names, I'm guessing it's profiles.

Oh... that is an imap account correct? You should see the envelope for mail delivered into the inbox. If you are using rules or settings that mark mail read, you won't get the envelope (you will , but it goes away quick).

(For some reason, I was thinking it was a hotmail account, which would be Exchange, no idea how i mis-read that).

This is where profiles are listed (I only have one in this computer)

These are accounts in the profiles (Properties in the screenshot above, then Email accounts).

BTW, the new mail alert settings are per computer user account, so it's not that. if an option is turned off in one profile, its off in all.

Thank you so much Diane for the informative reply. Actually you didn't misread the Hotmail Account, for I edited my post right after I put it up here. I thought there was no envelope showing for that account but there actually was.
On the AOL account, I didn't notice it either but now it's showing. I think I need a nap or a strong Starbucks!?!
Since I got your attention, why do I have two Profiles, one called New and the other as mentioned, Outlook? Do I need those two Profiles? Or should I just leave well enough alone and not touch them. What would you advise?

Honestly, i think it is easier to have all accounts in one profile, but some people worry about mixing business and personal and prefer 2 profiles.

If you have one account in new and one in outlook, i would add all of the accounts to outlook profile - before deleting New, make sure you export the contents of any folder labeled ' this computer only' in that profile, other wise you lose appointments and contacts in those folders.

All my email accounts are in the Outlook Profile, none in the New profile. What I do see in the New under Data Files is one called Outlook Data File. Usually when I begin to fool around with this stuff, I have the thrill of Outlook not working. I will ask you though, what do you think would happen then if I happened to delete the Profile called "New" ... ? Should I have a Fire Extinguisher close by or do you think by deleting it, Outlook is going to work ok.
As to this "New" Profile being there ... I don't know when how or why. :)

Outlook won't care if you delete extra profiles you aren't using. You only need one profile... and even if you'd delete both, Outlook won't burn, it will just pop up the new profile wizard so you can can create a profile.

The Outlook Data File will not be deleted, just the profile. If that data file contains any email you need, you can open it in the current profile using File, Open, Outlook Data file.

Forgive my ignorance of things Diane. So if I'm understanding correctly, all my present email addresses are in the Outlook Data File and thus deleting the "NEW" Profile is not going to remove those addresses, correct? Am I paranoid about throwing things right off kilter? Yup. And if it can happen to anyone, you're dialoguing with him now. :)

all my present email addresses are in the Outlook Data File
Assuming you mean the data file in the New profile, I have no idea what is in it - it might be empty. But deleting the New profile won't delete this data file and you can open it in the Outlook profile if you need anything that might be in it. (It might already be opened in the Outlook profile. :))

Not to confuse matters any, but recovering from a deleted profile or account is generally not a problem and Outlook won't blow up. You need to keep the following in mind though, because if you use an imap account and use folders labeled 'this computer only' you will lose calendar & contacts in those folders when you delete the account or profile.
As long as the data file extension is .pst, its saved on the hard drive and won't be deleted by outlook.
If the extension is .ost, it will be deleted when you delete an account. <== this is important for imap account users. Mail will resync down, but any folders with 'this computer only' don't sync, they are only on this computer and contents will be lost when the profile or account is deleted.

All email addresses are in the Outlook Profile (not the profile called New) including AOL & Hotmail. The only thing in the New Profile is Outlook Data File. When I go to Control Panel / Mail (Outlook 2013) (32 bit) and click on that, then Mail Setup - Outlook , then clicking on Show Profiles, the highlight bar is on the top (New) but down below that, it's checked off in the "Always use this Profile" and in the box below that is Outlook.
From what I see, it would appear I could actually delete "New" without losing anything. A yes or no might do this time Diane. Let me not be more tedious unto thee. :)

This does not even require a *yes* or *no* ... just a big thank you from my quarters. Your help is always so much appreciated!!! :)
(And did delete the NEW profile and no fires or explosions)
