This is not meant to be an Outlook negative post, but rather a ponder.
I have used the Outlook client over many version updates, and when having to relocate .PST files & bring across email account settings, the process has hardly changed over the years.
In my opinion, the process (of working with data files etc) whilst logical is quite archaic. Renaming & relocating data stores (PST files) is anything but an elegant process, having to break links, recreate them, and having to open and close the client at the right times so as not to create issues whilst 'working under the bonnet'.
I would have thought that an Outlook data management tool would by now exist (similar to 'Mail Microsoft Outlook' tool found in the Windows control panel), but with more powerful features, such as renaming, moving & redirecting.
I recently had to move the Thunderbird client for someone, and was surprised how easy the process was.
Even though I already have Outlook as part of Office (and know how it works), I was thinking to myself I wonder how Thunderbird would handle multiple accounts & large quantities of emails. I may never know, as to find out would require a fair bit of work and introduce a number of unknowns.
