I have a bit of an issue.

We kept our user account backed up, meaning everything in the mydocuments outlook file and the appdata outlook file is backed up onto a harddrive. We formated our PC and ended up putting everything from the outlook HDD backup onto the outlook file in our users section, after we finished installing outlook.

We didn't, however, use the outlook backup tool, as we saved the entire folder. Now we can't get out contacts or emails. Since we have all the original accounts and account information in the outlook file, is there a way we can get our stuff back?
 
One option you have is to use a 3rd party OST to PST conversion tool. Once you have converted your .ost to a .pst file you can import the data back into Outlook.
 
How you get the mail and contacts depends on what type of account you have configured in Outlook. PST files can be opened directly in Outlook; ost files can only be opened by the account that created them, so tyou'll need to use a conversion tool if you can't use system restore to go back. However, the two account types that have pst files (exchange and hoptmail connector) are server accounts so under most circumstances you wouldn't need to recover dtata from the ost files.

In the event you do need to recover mail from an ost, Convert an Exchange Offline file (OST) to a Personal Folders file (PST) has a list of recovery programs.
 
I know financial obligations are never the best option, but there is data recovery software out there. i don't want to promote it, but if you need it let me know and I can give you a little more info.
 
This is not that easy task but can be recoverable also. Use a third party conversion tool which is form OST to PST. The reason is PST files can be opened directly in Outlook but this OST files can only be opened by the creator of the account. It has a list of recovery programs, chose which ever suits you. Otherwise you can contact the data recovery agents or look for some data recovery software.
