Disk Reads of outlook.pst while outlook not open

Hi, can anyone can suggest an answer to the following please?
My laptop operating system is Windows Vista.

There are no apps open but the disk usage is almost continuous.
I therefore opened Task Manager, and from there opened the System Monitor.
That shows that various files including outlook.pst and archive are being read even though no apps open at all apart from system monitor and task manager.

Does anyone know why that might be happening?

3rd party utilities, such as sync utilities, although outlook.exe should be running under Processes tab in Task Manager. It won't be under the Programs tab - only Processes.
Search indexing.
Antivirus scanning.
