Windows 11/Office 365 - can't forward calendar entry as ics file

My spouse and I keep our respective calendars up to date by forwarding new calendar entries as ics file. However, with the config above, I could only forward a msg message file. How do I get back the missing functionality?

Searching didn't turn up anything useful. I tried.

I'm able to cope with registry fixes, powershell code, etc.

Are you forwarding individual events? This is what it should be when forwarding an item that is on the calendar (right click on the event, forward). But because it's an "Outlook item", if the recipient doesn't use Outlook or their mail server or mail scanner munges it, it could be turned into a message.

If you use Forward > Forward as ical, it is forwarded as an ical. (This is available in the Actions group when you create the new event or when you select an event on the calendar.)

You could create meetings and invite her too - then she just has to accept it. Outlook will let you turn off Request Responses if the responses are annoying.

I find the Outlook behavior a bit confusing. If I download a calendar event, say from my medical provider, when I try to forward it to my wife, it's forwarded as a message. I try and try, but no way can I forward it as an ics file. For calendar events that I create, of course they can be forwarded as ics files. At this point, I'm resigned to having to do my own calendar entries instead of forwarding the medical office events.

You could forward it as an attachment from the downloads folder...

When I open an ics I downloaded and use forward, it is received as a meeting request. I'm using Microsoft Exchange - sending it using IMAP or pop could have different results depending on the server.
