Why does Outlook (desktop) 365 for Windows keep making me input my passwords?

I use Outlook from Office 365 on Windows 10 (Home). Been using Outlook for literally decades. I'm a little crazy in that I have 16 email accounts (for various purposes).

Periodically, Outlook will forget all of my accounts' saved passwords and make me re-enter them. Entering 16 email passwords (none of which I have memorized) is a PITA. Why does Outlook do this, and how can I prevent it from doing it?

What type of email account do you have configured in Outlook? POP, IMAP, Outlook.com, or Microsoft Exchange?

Outlook is usually good about remembering passwords - but has been known to lose them if you set Outlook to work offline.

Are you using anything like CCleaner to clean up your hard drive and registry? If so, stop.

I have almost entirely IMAP accounts, and two Outlook.com accounts (which may be set up as MS Exchange, I'm not sure). Most of them are GMail accounts.

I never take Outlook offline.

I am not currently using CCleaner - but my husband does. He doesn't have this password issue. Please tell me why use of these cleaners is not advised!

It happened the day I wrote this post - had to reenter all my account passwords. Again, today. Making me want to switch from Outlook to Thunderbird, or something non-Microsoft.

It's so frustrating to have issues with a MS product and feel like you're the only one! What is the current support site for Outlook that is Microsoft-monitored?

It shouldn't happen at all - I occasionally get the dialog for Gmail after the computer wakes and being lazy, cancel it instead of entering my password. Gmail will download ok on the next mail pass. I don't know if the same works for other accounts- I have 2-step enabled on Gmail and microsoft stores the password in a different manner than they do for other IMAP and pop accounts.

Which version and build of Outlook are you using? See File, Office Account for the information.
Did the problem start recently - and if so, any idea when?

Thanks for trying to help with this. I get this occasionally (every few months?), and have for at least a year.

My version is 2203, build 15028.20228 Click-to-run, whatever that means!

Since its been going on that long, rolling back won't help - you need to go too far back.

Try canceling the password dialog and see if it works.

Oh, and are any of the account POP3? If you have more than one email client checking mail on POP accounts, you will occasionally get the password dialog. This happens when the other client is checking mail and puts a lock on the mailbox, preventing outlook from logging in. Reentering the password will only work if the other client is done checking mail and removed the lock.

Canceling the password dialog allows me into my email, but it isn't synching, then.

No POP3 accounts at all! Since I pay for my Office365 account, I'm trying to figure out how to get Microsoft to answer this - but please let me know if you hear or think of anything!

Unless you have business office 365 subscription, Microsoft won't give you much help. :(

So, this problem reoccurred today, and I actually was able to chat live with MS support. They did a remote support session, and wanted me to regenerate an app password - I told them I had 17 accounts and didn't really want to do that. But it got me wondering - why am I able to connect Outlook to Gmail accounts with my "regular" password, if I've generated app passwords for Outlook in my gmail accounts?

I deleted all of those accounts that were re-prompting me for password (it was all Google accounts; interestingly, it was not ALL of my Google accounts) and re-added them the "default" way, in Outlook.

Now, I no longer have the [Gmail]/All Mail folder showing, even though it shows as being subscribed to. I really need to get that back because, if I don't delete the "All Mail" copy of messages that I delete from the Inbox, I'm left with a bunch of stuff in All Mail that I don't want! Any ideas?

[Edit] OR, maybe I don't have to worry about this. Used to be that Gmail messages in the Inbox and All Mail were totally separate items. I could delete the one in the Inbox and it would remain in All Mail. It seems like maybe that behavior has CHANGED, now. ??

It always seems to weird to be having specific continued problems that NO ONE else reports or seems to be having.

After deleting/readding my accounts in Outlook - now even my iOS email client (NOT Outlook) is not downloading my email the same way it used to.. I used to get, for any google account, 2 copies of each incoming mail - one from the Inbox "folder" and one from the All Mail "folder." Now, some accounts continue to work that way - others are only bringing in one copy of the message.

I don't understand how changing how I have these accounts in Outlook could impact a totally separate email client!

AAANNNDDD, it's asking me to re-enter passwords again. Does Outlook hate me, for some reason?
