Outlook Not Responding Message

I keep getting a message "Not Responding" when I click on a message to read or delete while messages are downloading; it locks up and won't respond. I am sure I was able to do that in the past.

You probably could do it...

Does it work in Safe mode? To open Outlook in Safe mode: Close Outlook then hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon. You'll get a message asking if you want to start in Safe mode. Click Ok.

If you wait, does it come back to life?

What antivirus do you use?

Any idea when it starting doing this? A recent update causes a number of problems - this isn't on the known issues list, but that doesn't mean anything.
 
Yes it starts in safe mode. I use McAfee antivirus. It seems like it started about a month ago. I will check on the updates.
 
It could be related to a windows or outlook update, but because it works in Safe mode, its either an addin or a support file. It could be the mcafee addin or something else - go to Tools, Trust Center and see what non-Microsoft addins are install.

If it's a support file, it might be *.SRS file - that holds send and receive settings.

The only non Microsoft is the McAfee add in. I did recently add Outlook backup. I don't see a report file. I also had to re install McAfee about a month ago. McAfee of course checks the emails for spam but it usually catches non spam.
 
Because it just started recently, either an update did something or corrupted a file. You could try repairing outlook - but i would either disable the mcafee addin or delete the srs file and see if it helps - if not, the other one. Because the problems happen during a send/receive, it could be either one.
 
When I try to disable McAfee I get the message "log in as administrator" but I am administrator. Does that mean I should use a password for my computer. I am the only one who uses it.
 
I do, and I thought I already posted it. Sorry about that. We kept losing power Monday afternoon (out just long enough to be annoying) and the UPS running the modem failed, so every time the power cut off, the modem went down too. It looks like I probably forgot to post it when the network came back up.

It means to use your Administrator account - which may or may not be the same as your computer account.

Are you trying to disable it in McAfee or in Outlook addins? If Outlook, close outlook and right click on the outlook shortcut, choosing Run as Administrator.
 
Thank you for answering. Are you located where the storm was?

I did try that and it still gave me the same answer. So I created a password to log onto my computer and then tried that; still got the same message. So deleted the the password since that didn't solve it. Then when I launched Outlook it kept asking for my password over and over. So I deleted the account and reinstalled that which worked I then received 400 emails. Just now I tried again and was able to disable them! But it is now asking over and over for password. I am truly disgusted.
 
I'm outside of Cleveland - we had wind and rain from a western storm before it merged with the hurricane and got battered some more. My son *might* get power back Sat.

Can you post a screenshot of the password dialog?
 
I think I may have it solved. I have also been in contact with Microsoft Answers; either you or they suggested earlier in another email to go to>user>username>appData>roaming>Microsoft>Protect, backup that file then delete. The first time I tried it it didn't work that is when I deleted the account and re-did it. This time I think it worked (so far)

This is not about the previous problem but I cannot see anywhere to start a new thread. I am having a problem creating a new contact. I keep getting the message Outlook does not recognize this email address.
 
You need to go out to the main forum page to start a new thread - or use this link: https://forums.slipstick.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=46 I should figure out how to add it to page or the menu bar so its easier to find.

Is the address format valid? I get it when I miss the shift key and type 2 instead of @ - commas instead of will periods do it too.
 
This is the email which I copied off of her page. "chronicfatigue@aboutguide" I wondered if that might be the case but that is what I copied. Actually when I look at it now I do wonder.

It appears your recently sent Email is to large to be sent. Its still in your out box right?

1 close outlook and disconnect from the internet

2 open outlook go to your out box and delete or rejuce the size of the file....done
