From an email open a link but not the new window

Outlook version
Outlook 2013 64 bit
Email Account
Exchange Server
When clicking on a link in an email the link must open, in the background, but the email window must remain open
I.e. Not to go to the new window that the link opened

Reason being - Sometimes one wants to finish reading the an email and later read the contents of the newly opened link

Windows 8.1
Outlook 2013
Chrome Version 36.0.1985.143 m and / or Internet Explorer 11
HP ProBook 4730s
 
AFAIK, you can't do it using desktop IE, unless you use 2 screens and IE goes to the other screen. It will work in a similar way with the modern IE app (split screens is the only thing I like about modern IE.)
