e-mail reminder for shared calendar

Hi, is there a way to implement in an Outlook shared calendar the same function of GMail calendar? In other words, I would like an email to be sent 1 or 2 days before the event occurs to a certain list of users (which I would like to defined for each different appointment). The email should be sent also when Outlook is closed (so I suppose there should be a service/application which runs periodically and looks for the forthcoming events).
 
When outlook is open, you would use a macro.
When outlook is closed a macro won't work - you'd need to use an addin or utility. If you use exchange and have access to Exchange web services, you should be able to use powershell and task scheduler to read the calendar and prepare reminders. I don't have any samples that do that though.
