manual rule sends mail to wrong folder

I have a Manual rule, to move an email to 'hold' folder in my main imap account. It used to work ok. a few weeks ago it apparently stopped working as directed. it sends all mail to outlook.com 'hold' folder.

I have checked the rule and it points to the imap hold folder.

If I run the rule on an email in the wrong hold folder, it sends it to the correct hold folder.

I deleted and recreated the rule. still fails.
I ran scanpst.exe a couple of times. still fails
several threads about this problem mention 'always end rule with 'stop processing more rules' '. 'stop processing more rules' doesn't seem to exist on my outlook.

What could be causing this bizarre failure?

Did you reselect the Imap adata file's hold folder? If you rename one of the folders, does it work as expected?
 
yes, i checked that selection. and I deleted and rebuilt the quick step.

I changed hold to 'hold 1' and modified the quick step. outlook suddenly can't differentiate between hold folders in a different location??

of course the rule continues to work fine on the laptop, with which I sync the desktop .pst (which has the hold problem) with

i realize that the 'hold 1' statement is unclear. after changing folder name and quick step name pointed to 'hold 1' , emails did get deposited to 'hold 1'. when i changed name back to 'hold', the problem resumed.

the quick step for moving email to 'hold' on my laptop works ok.

Outlook can be stupid at times. :) I'll see if I can repro and if so, report it as a regression bug.
 
good luck reproducing it. I sync my desktop with laptop, for pst, and can't reproduce it on laptop. the hold folder that the quickstep refers to is an imap folder. the quikstep on laptop works ok going to the same imap hold folder.

seems like it has to be something on the desktop is messed up, though I don't know what it might be. apparently it has been going on for a couple of weeks, but i just realized it when i looked for mail in hold folder and couldn't find it. then found a bunch in the wrong hold folder.
