Hi,
I have recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my computer and reconfigured email accounts in Outlook 2010. One old account that I had trouble reconfiguring has ended up with the Trash Folder as a subfolder to the Inbox Folder. On another email account the Trash Folder is a separate folder on the same hierarchical level as the Inbox, Send, Drafts, Junk E-mail Folders. I note that on a third account there is no Trash Folder only a Deleted Items Folder. How can I reorder/move the Trash Folder on the older account so that it is not within the Inbox Folder. Outlook does not allow me to move or delete the Trash Folder under any circumstances.
 
It sounds like normal IMAP accounts - each IMAP server has their own configuration for deleted items. You might be able to log into the imap account through webmail and move or change the folder, but in most cases, if the trash folder is under the inbox, you can't change it.
 
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately webmail shows 2 Trash Folders under the old account. One of the Trash Folders is signified by a "folder" icon the other by a "basket" icon (a main folder). When I delete email items from the Inbox (in Outlook) they appear in the trash folder with the "folder" icon in webmail but no longer appear in the trash folder in Outlook. Clearly only items in one of the webmail folders (the one with the "folder" icon which is not the main webmail folder) show up in Outlook.

I am unable to delete any folders in webmail (main or otherwise) and even if I could I doubt the content of the other trash folder could download to Outlook on my computer. So it appears that the main trash folder in Outlook is not linked to the main trash folder in webmail.Crazy stuff! Sounds like a dead-end. Thanks anyway. Another one of life's little imperfections.

Resolved. Just a quick follow up on my previous post. I was able to create a folder called "Deleted Items" in Outlook which immediately took on the properties of a main folder by showing a "basket" icon. I was then able to delete the troublesome Trash Folder (in Outlook) after the second attempt (after it reappeared once as a sub-folder to the newly created Deleted Items Folder). Previously, I was not able to delete the Trash Folder. Under account settings in Outlook I have then able to direct all deleted items go to the newly created Deleted Items Folder. So all is in order in Outlook. . However I now have one Deleted Items Folder and one Trash Folder in webmail. I can live with that.
