Good day to you!

May I ask if anyone know how could I locate the source folder of a dll corresponding to a specific COM add-in in outlook 365 desktop version ?

Many thanks in advance!

The path used by the addin is in the add-ins list in Options. Object models

That is a net framework file.
Exactly, and it has multiple copies. How an i know which one to alter to stop this "bloatware" feature re-starting ? Because remove/disable COM doenst work, but teh software itself is good, only this feature is extremely disturbing. Any way to check by script at startup if this COM is enabled and disable/remove it automatically ?

So if you disable it as an addin, it gets reenabled? (File > Options > Addins - click Go at the bottom and ucheck it.)

Set a registry key to disable it - if it is set in policy, the program should not override it.

This is very promising, but how do you know the "name" ? Because taking an existing example for social connector 2016, this is the value as I found on the page you sent :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\resiliency\addinlist]
"OscAddin.Connect"="1"

BUT

the "OscAddin.Connect" is not visible on either of the add-in pages (screenshots attached).

So how can I get the name of the add-in I would like to prevent starting?

Many thanks in advance!

The social connector is being removed from Outlook.

What do you have in these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Addins
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

The social connector is being removed from Outlook.

What do you have in these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Addins
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

Sorry if I wasnt clear (english is not my native tongue), Social Connector was just an example, but I could select any other. The purpose of my question was how to get the name, which required to block a specific add-in using registry.

Answering your question what I have in these entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Addins
2024-10-18 07_08_27-Registry Editor.png

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins
2024-10-18 07_06_57-Registry Editor.png

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins
2024-10-18 07_09_00-Registry Editor.png

So it means the name, I have to block is: PEOfficeAddIn.PDFelementConnect

And this is how I am blocking it at both locations:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\resiliency\addinlist]
"PEOfficeAddIn.PDFelementConnect "="1"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\resiliency\addinlist]
"PEOfficeAddIn.PDFelementConnect "="1"

Correct ?

You want it set to 0 to block it.

0The add-in is always disabled (blocked)
1The add-in is always enabled
2The add-in is configurable by the user and not blocked by the "Block all unmanaged add-ins" policy
[th]
Valid values are
[/th]

This should be the correct key to add it to -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0\outlook\resiliency\addinlist

But it won't hurt to add it to the other key.

you could write a script to check for the COM's status and disable or remove it automatically.

That's correct, and there are multiple copies. Would you please tell me which one I need to change so that this "bloatware" feature does not re-start? Since removing/disabling COM does not work, but the actual software is good, only this feature is annoying. Would it be possible to check by script at startup if this COM is enabled and disable or remove it automatically?
