Imported Contact Issues

I exported a small contact sub folder to a CSV file so I could clean it up more easily. I then deleted the contents of that contact folder and imported the corrected contacts back into it. Now when I go to a received email from one of those contacts and hover over the senders address the pop up box does not display all the information as before and if I right click on it gives me an option to "Add to Outlook Contacts".

-------Why? It is already in a contact folder.

If i choose to add it to outlook contacts a duplicate contact file is created in the default contact folder. I then need to delete the existing entry and drag the new file from the contacts folder to the sub folder. Not a pain as it is only ten contacts. But this was a test precluding the 300+ I have in other folders.

What did i Miss? Whats wrong?

It sounds like the import did not resolve the addresses - if you click the To button, are the addresses listed?

If they are, Open the Address book (Ctrl+Shift+B) and click on Tools, options - what is selected under 'when sending mail, check in this order' ?

When I click the to button I can indeed find the contact sub folder as well as the contacts there.
In the Address book it states "Choose Automatically".
 
it sounds like the addresses are resolved. How many contacts folders do you have? if you have more than one, instead of using choose automatically, set it to use the one that has your contacts in it. Also, in File, options, people, turn on check for duplicates - see if it detects the duplicates when you choose add to contacts.
 
I have 6 contact folders., Ie. east coast clients - west coast clients - Canadian clients, etc. To reiterate the problem.
I took a small folder - Canadian - exported and deleted the folder. Took the csv and cleaned up the files. Imported back to a folder. And now the are no longer showing up as Outlook Contacts. I have to right clik and add to outlook contacts. at his point it creates a new entry and I need to delete teh original and drag the duplicate into teh folder for it to be an outlook contact.

But... when you click To the select the Canadian folder in the Address Book dropdown, the contacts are visible?

If the Canadian folder is not listed, right click on it and choose Properties, Outlook Address Book and click Show as address book. If you can see the folder and the contacts, then the addresses are properly resolved.

In Address book, tools, options are all of the contacts folders listed in the box and dropdown? If you use Custom at the top and have Canadian first, does outlook find the imported contacts?


In File, Options, People do you have check for duplicates enabled? As long as you are saving it to the Canadian folder, it should find the dupes.
 
The folder itself is checked as an outlook folder. If I begin to type a contacts email it will find the contact and auto complete but if I right click over an email address received from that contact it does not recognize it as an outlook contact and will no longer auto complete.

Sorry, no I haven't.. that dialog looks like one for contacts, with the availability listed. Does it also include her address?

Have you tried making a new profile?
