Running the Database from a Server

Hello,

I would like to take the BCM database and move it to a server system instead

of running it from a client system. Can I do this? My intent is to use the

server for the "shared" database.

That's supported with BCM v3 (2007), but not earlier versions. There's

a tool you can download to install the database on the server.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0f-f593-4fb4-b822-dd662af1a6cb&displaylang=en

It looks like I have version 3 (BCM v3.00.7311.00). I will check out the tool

you provided the link to in a few minutes and let you know how it went.

Thanks!

Can we use SQL Server 2008 for this?

The SQL Server we are putting this on actually responds on 2 NIC cards. We

intend for it to allow users from both sides of the NIC cards to get access

to the BCM. I assume this is handled at the SQL level, not directly through

BCM right? One NIC card is connected to a wired network the other is directly

connected (with a wire) to a Wireless AP that we use for mobile clients in

our building. I assume that simply by the fact that the SQL Server responds

of both NIC interfaces that BCM will also be available to both.

Am I wrong?

Thanks,

I found that at first it wouldn't see the SQL Server 2008 but after

installing SQL Server 2005 it started to see the 2008 (I assume this is

because of the SQL Browser or connectivity components working from 2005 and

2008). It seems that it created the database without problems on 2008.

Above download only works with english office versions.

BCM uses SQL 2005 AFAIK

Yeah, I found out that it only works with SQL 2005 which is disappointing.

the tool managed to create the database but after sharing it BCM wouldn't

connect from a client computer so I had to go and provision SQL 2005 we still

had from last year.

Nontheless it seems to work just fine.
