Email image problems

I have Outlook 2010 and normally when I open a received email I can choose to "Add to safe senders list" so that next time the images from that sender is automatically downloaded.

Or if I just want to see the images of just that email I can right click and select "Download Images"

I have recently been noticing that some emails won't download images or allow either of the two options to do so.

These emails can be opened in other email clients, showing the images no problem both on the same computer or even on my tablet - so the emails are perfectly fine, it is just Outlook playing up.

I've done the deleting the contents of the SecureTemp folder trick and the deselecting the "Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items" option in the Trust Center Settings but neither solution changes things.

Any idea why Outlook is having problems with some emails?

Any assistance on this matter is appreciated

The messages are indeed in the account's Inbox

All image code as far as I can tell are formatted in the same way regardless of whether they work or not.

On some of the emails that don't show the images, the Infobar says:
If there are problems with how this message is displayed, click here to view it in a web browser

Note that this is not a constant message on all problematic emails, and some similar emails from the same sender show up fine.

Some of these emails are from big companies like google and amazon so they really would use an automated system for creating similar emails so you'd expect a coding problem (if there was one) to occur on all similar emails from them.

As stated previously ALL emails show up fine in other email clients on this PC as well as my tablet.

I really am stumped at the moment as to why only Outlook is having problems.

If they are in the inbox, then its not junk filter security. I'm assuming if you open in a browser, that they work as expected?




Usually with coding problems, it would depend on the template. Paypal recently used a bad template for about a week (problem was in the footer) - but depending on how the content is added to the template, it could be an issue with the content.




What antivirus / security software do you use? Does it scan email?




Have you looked at the source code for the bad messages?

Yes, they show up fine in a browser.

What antivirus / security software do you use? Does it scan email?

Kaspersky Internet Security.

This was one of the first things I thought off. I've tried various settings to no avail.

Have you looked at the source code for the bad messages?

Yes, no obvious differences between working messages and problematic ones.

Is the problem fairly common? If so, try safe mode. Generally speaking, if the problem is the antivirus, if its broken in the download, it will always be broken so safe mode won't help those messages but if the problem is fairly frequent that you could run in safe mode and see if new mail is affected, it would give us an idea if its an addin.

As for disabling the AV, the newer AVs hook deep into windows and disabling them isn't always enough - you need to uninstall. But before going to the trouble, Safe mode in outlook and in windows can help determine if that is the cause.

Safe mode in outlook: Close outlook, hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon to start in Safe mode.

Safe mode in windows: hold F8 as you reboot and choose Safe mode.
