Read, unread, i'm losing clients!

Please help! 2007 Outlook. My incoming mail is un-bolding on one click or no click, showing that it has been read, when it has not been read.

How can I ensure that it only shows that it's been read when it has been opened? Please.
 
Tools, Options, Other tab - Reading pane. I use only the option for Single key reading and Ctrl+Q to mark as read if i read in the reading pane and am finished with it. (I try not to mark messages read if I'm still working on them.)
