Deleting one email in a conversation deletes all

If a user deletes one email in a conversation thread, it deletes them all. They are recoverable from Deleted items, but why does it delete all and how can this be turned off?

At first I had toi say the user was off their rocker, but I have tested on mine, same results.

I know I have half a brain to hunt thru settings but I just cannot find this anywhere.

You can't turn it off, other than by not using conversations.

There is bug (IMHO, MS says its by design) where if there is one message in the inbox and you aren't showing items from other folders, the message is it's own group header and adding a category to the group headers, applies to all in the conversation.

However, this has never applied to deleting items in my tests. What version of Exchange do you use? I'll try to repro it.

On further review, now it makes sense.

If you delete an email that is most likely is not part of the conversation, then the next email inline becomes hilited. This email will either be a part of a conversation which will populate the window or it will not be part of any conversation which will of course show an empty field.

I would say its anon-issue. I think I was just misunderstanding what will show in the converstation window.

Either way, most of the users turn it off.
 
With Exchange 2007, the conversation is generally less than useful because it groups by subject and it's really annoying when messages don't group correctly. If/when you move to Exchange 2010, they'll use it a lot more.

Although, there are a few messages I liked grouping together and it annoys me now that the accounts are on Exchange 2010 and Conversations work correctly. :)
