Contact Groups - names keep changing from Contacts to AddressBook

I'm not a big fan of Contact Groups, but my predaccessor used them, so am continuing until I can set up my own procedures.

I originally received a copy of her Contacts/AddressBook, to make sure I had everyone she had (about 1000 people). Then I proceeded to work in the various Contact Groups. Problem is, when I tried to send an e-mail to the 'group', I get an error saying "One or more members of this contact group cannot be found. Would you like to ... and I select Repair the lost members". However, this immediately turns all of my 'Contacts' into AddressBook and I then must 're-add' them all from my Contacts.

I prefer them showing up as Contacts, because I'm hoping to start using Categories more and it's much easier to update the CONTACT instead of the AddressBook.

I'm sure this probably sounds crazy, but if anyone else has had this similar problem and if there is a way to fix it, would you please let me know? I'm even getting the error after I've 're-added' them as Contacts and go back in...
 
The problem is caused by sharing a DL that contains contacts and not including the contacts too. The DL is looking for the contact that it links to and when it can't find it, it either removes the entry or converts it to an address card.

If you have the contacts in your contacts folder, click Forward in internet format then copy the list of names from the resulting text file. Paste the list into excel and copy the address column. (Either column should work fine, i always use the address column). Create a new Contact Group, Click Add Members > from Contacts and paste the list in the members field and it should link to the Contacts.

I did what you suggested, and my list is still populated with 'AddressBook' information. Maybe I missed something???
 
Hmm. it works differently in different versions. I shouldn't be surprised, outlook has a habit of changing behavior with each version. Outlook 2010 finds the addresses but doesn't link to the contact, even when i use the name only. It brings it up if i use the look up contact command.

I'll take a closer look at it tonight.
 
Have you found any more information? I'm still having this problem.
