Outlook keeps downloading old mail

hi,
My outlook keeps downloading emails from the past and is now clogging up my outlook. I just made a new PST file because i did not want the old one to be corrupted. Please help!
 
The "mailbox manager" file that tracks messages that are downloaded when you leave mail on the server is stored in the pst, so they will be downloaded...

You can use a rule to delete the mail as its downloaded (use the condition for mail received between certain dates) - make sure you change the setting to delete mail as its deleted in outlook or it will be deleted from the server too.
