No, if the field does not have a dropdown, you can't add one.

You can use shortcuts- 9a or 3p or 1.30 for 'today at' or 2w 3p for 2 weeks for now, at 3 pm. 2d 4p = 2 days from now, 4 pm. Normal date shortcuts, like 3/10 3p also work.
 
Sorry I can't create the drop-down, but glad there is a workaround. Thank you Diane!
