After seeing this post, I had a phone conversation with second-level Comcast email support and they confirmed that this post is correct and current. Using and managing Xfinity Email accounts

Further, Comcast will discontinue ALL email sometime in 2025, due to low utilization by Comcast customers. Most customers are using Gmail or a similar third party service.

For me, this is the last straw with Comcast. I am very dissatisfied with their email support in general and with their policy of making it darn near impossible to talk with an actual human being. Unfortunately we have had Comcast email addresses for probably 25+ years, and transitioning hundreds of website logins and online accounts will be a nightmare.

They are going to cancel email for current comcast.net addresses?

Exactly - I would expect to see them pass the email hosting to yahoo but let everyone keep their addresses. (Cox did this last summer.) It will take more than a few months to change all the logins and verify you didn't miss some.

Yahoo is shorthand for "lots and lots of SPAM and real challenges to just logging in."

Did Cox give Xfinity the idea to discontinue email? Do you know how well the Cox to Yahoo transition worked for users?

Based on my clients' experience, the transition went well. I thought the instructions they gave were good and easy to follow to get the accounts set up in yahoo, but a couple of people asked me to help set it up.

FYI: I have had a similar experience with an ISP here in Australia (Swoop, was DCSI), but my email they had provided for the last 10 years suddenly disappeared without warning. I DID find their email policy from 2020, where they stated that "the industry" is gradually moving away from POP3 accounts, as there are many other better free ones available (true) BUT, their policy stated that this would be only those that were used for business, used larger than 500GB, or had not been used for more than 12 months. None of those conditions applied, but it still got deleted on the 26th November, and as your OP said, it takes a LOT (weeks of work) to change a lot of my Forum and technical accounts to another one, as only 6 out of 10 accounts could be changed easily. The TIO and ACMA here do NOT investigate email account loss, so I cannot raise an official complaint for this incorrect deletion.

You were using it regularly and they didn't send you an email notifying you they were going to delete it? I know Microsoft and Gmail will close unused accounts - for Microsoft is no log ins for 2 years - but Microsoft warns you at your security email (assuming you added a security address) and you have 30 days to sign in to prevent deletion.

Honestly, that’s incredibly frustrating, and I really feel for you. Losing an email address you’ve used for 10 years without warning is no small thing, especially when it’s tied to forums and technical accounts that are a nightmare to update. What makes it worse is that their own policy says your account shouldn’t have been touched — yet it was deleted anyway, with no real avenue for accountability since TIO and ACMA won’t investigate email loss.

At this point, the only realistic options are continuing to escalate directly with the ISP (even if it feels pointless), documenting everything in case it helps later, and sadly doing the slow, painful cleanup of moving critical accounts to a provider you fully control. Situations like this are exactly why ISP-provided email addresses are risky, even when companies claim they’ll follow their own policies.

Wow, that sounds frustrating. Do you know if Comcast has given any guidance or tools for migrating all those accounts and emails before they shut down their service?

If Comcast has given any guidance or tools for migrating all those accounts
Upgrade your Comcast.net email experience to Yahoo Mail

Starting in June 2025, customers with a comcast.net email will be invited to upgrade their email account to Yahoo Mail for a better email experience at no extra cost. Invitations will roll out gradually through 2026, and when the time comes, you’ll see yours in your inbox or when you securely sign in to connect.xfinity.com. Your comcast.net email address stays the same — and so do your messages, folders, and contacts.
