I am setting up a new Win 11 computer for my wife.
Her old Outlook 2021 classic has 5 or 6 email accounts. They are all IMAP or Exchange. I do have a .pst file in there for the calendar and contacts.
In the past I always just re created the accounts for her but I am wondering if it is feasible to export all the accounts configuration data.
I know how to copy over the auto complete info and move the pst file and open it.
But I am wondering about the account/profile info.
New computer will be Outlook 2024 classic.

The profile is stored in the registry, and while you can export it, if the user account names are not the same, it will error. You'll still need to enter the passwords. So... unless Outlook can't find the account and you need to set it up manually and enter the server settings, letting Outlook create the accounts is generally easier.

This is the path where Outlook has the ost files - C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook - if the windows username is identical on both, it should work. You could even copy the ost files if they arent huge, since they are tied to the profile.

As far as the versions go, both 2021 and 2024 are Office 16.0, so you won't have a problem using the exported registry on the new computer.
 
I'm don't know if I will be able to set up an identical username, it was a local account (and Standard not Admin) and I've found Windows getting increasingly difficult to set up local accounts, wants a MS account.
But if I can set up an identical local account, you believe an export would be ok? Would an export of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Profiles
include all the accounts, servers, etc?

Best way is to just set up the IMAP/Exchange accounts fresh in Microsoft Outlook 2024, then copy over the PST file and autocomplete cache so her calendar, contacts, and history are intact. It’s usually more reliable than trying to move full profiles since Outlook can be picky across systems. You could try Remo Outlook Migration tool to save some time, but you’ll likely still need to sign in again or fix a few accounts after.
 
I did decide to recreate the accounts manually on the new system.
the first I am trying is a ***@live.com account.
I first tried through Control Panel and just entered the email address and let it try to auto setup.
It said it could not find an encrypted connection.
Then I tried by opening Outlook and it asked for the email. I put it in and selected "Exchange" and it has been sitting for 10 minutes on the next screen which says "We're getting things ready".
I had been seeing a spinning circle next to that, but now that is gone and it seems inactive.
Task Manager shows no activity on the performance graphs.
My research shows it is not using the modern authentication but I am out of ideas.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I had to force Outlook to close, it was locked up. Then I rebooted and it had no email accounts. But it offered the account I've been trying to set up as an option, so I said yes and it set up successfully as an exchange account.
then I added the .pst file that had my wife's saved emails, made it the default and deleted the pst it had created.
All seems well now.
the other accounts are plain IMAP's so I don't expect any problems. (ha ha)
