Installing SQL Server 2008 Express with BCM installed

I've had BCM installed for a while now. It is using the 2005 verion of

SQL Server.

I want to download and install SQL Server 2008 Express to learn about

SQL.

Question: Do I need to install SQL Server 2008, or can I just create a

new database in SQL Server 2005 that BCM installed?

Question: Will there be conflicts if I install SQL Server 2008 Express

on the same machine as BCM?

Thanks

Sql 2005 and 2008 are supposed to work side-by-side, but I haven't

tried that.

If you're learning about Sql, 2005 and 2008 are essentially the same.

The differences are for advanced students.

Now, with BCM installed as MSSMLBIZ, is it possible to create another

instance of SQL with what BCM installs?

In other words, do I have SQL installed on my workstation? If so, I

could install 2008 in a virtual environment.

Thanks Luther.

1. Yes. You can create other named instances of SQL databases while

leaving MSSMLBIZ along. I have had both the default SQL instance and

the BCM MSSMLBIZ instance present at the same time, because I have

installed SQL Express prior to installing BCM, so I know that you can

have multiple instances co-existing.

2. Well, if you want to be safe and have the virtual environment, I

would say go for it. : ) It would not hurt if your work environment

and your "play-and-learn" environment are separate.

3. Luther is right. SQL 2005 and 2008 should be able to co-exist side-

by-side.
