Hi all,
first of all I did not want to post any repeating posts.. but I looked up any forum and all possible answers... but still found no solution for the planned company setup.
First of all we did test out the BCM 2010 on our local LAN using a Desktop WIN7/64 Professional with SQL 2008 Express SP1 and the BCM Database tool installing a MSSMLBIZ DB Instance and a BCM Database...
after making sure that :
> .. DB Tool and BCM use the same language - in our CASE "EN"
> .. the default Port 5356 is configured correctly in the Firewall
> .. the MSSMLBIZ Instance the Named Pipes and TCP/IP protocoll ist enabled and configured to use the Port 5356
> .. all Server users and PW match the local user / PW on the Client PC
We got the solution to work and are quite happy with the functionality for us as a small company.
But now our boss did want to have the BCM Database available even when not in the office (he is not satisfied with the offline standard solution...
ur Approach:
We did buy a virtual server Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter edition with a hosting provider and did install as above the SQL 2008 Express Server and the BCM Database tool to create the Database.
checked the firewall settings and the user settings... but can still not establish a connection with the Database from any of the clients / users.
We can ping the server via name or IP no issues
even using the SQL Command on any of the client PC's:
sqlcmd -E -S tcp:xxx.xxx.com\MSSMLBIZ,5356 does show an established connection to the DB instance
However the BCM connection dialog does allways show the same error message no DB no matter if using the server name or the IP Adress or even together with the Port "xxx.xxx.com\MSSMLBIZ, 5356".
Does anybody has any idea on what else could be wrong or what other settings (port, shares, etc) need to be adapted?
Thanks for any help.
