unable to send to a hotmail.com account

I'm including an email button on a website I'm building for a client who has a hotmail.com address. When testing the button, it opens my default email software OK (Outlook 2003) but I get an 'undeliverable' return message:


The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
'wheator@hotmail.com' on 10/10/2012 12:49 554 5.7.1


<wheator@hotmail.com>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied




I've spent rather a long time searching the internet and it appears other people have the same problem with Outlook and hotmail. Is there a solution or will my client have to have an alternative email provider to accommodate other Outlook users?

It sounds like either your provider or your internet security software is blocking the address. Can you send to any Hotmail addresses?

BTW Does he own his own domain name?

Hi, Thanks for the response. He will have his own domain once I get the site uploaded and I'll suggest that he starts using the address that goes with it. I've not tried another hotmail address 'cus I don't know anyone else on hotmail

I'll see if my provider can throw any light on the problem and point me in the right direction - don't know why I didn't think of that myself - senior moment, I guess.
