Is there any way to search an email folder and all of its sub-folders?

If I enter a search string, it will search the selected folder. If that fails, it will offer me the option to search all folders. I would like to search just the selected folder and all of its sub-folders.

I store emails associated with cases in a folder named "Cases". Under that folder, I have a number of sub-folders:
  • 0 New
  • 1 Active
  • 2 Closed 2014
  • 3 Closed 2013
  • 3 Closed 2012
  • 3 Closed 2011
  • 5 Never Started
  • 9 Other
Each of these has a sub-folder with the case name, where all emails associated with that case are stored. When I get a call about a new case, I create a sub-folder under "0 New". If it goes active, I move it to "1 Active". When it is closed, I move it to the current year.

From time to time, I need to search for a case name. I would like to be able to search the entire "Cases" tree.

Is there a way to do that?

Thanks

you should have folder/subfolder option, but maybe it wasn't introduced until Outlook 2010. I just checked on a virtual machine - it looks like the additional options were added later. Sorry.

Advanced Find (Ctrl+Shift+F) will do subfolders - click Browse and select the folder and the box for subfolders.

We will be upgrading out computers soon and will get the latest office. In the meantime, CS+F wor4ks. Thanks for that.

Only one problem: I get a list showing only the sub-folder. It does not show the entire path or even the parent folder. Once I get the results, is there any way for me to see the complete path?

Not sure if this works in 2007, but you can open a found item and click c+s+f to open a new advanced find windows and click Browse -- it should show you where the message is.

(this is a popular request- i'll look into a macro that displays the path.)

Wow. That works great. Thanks so much for that tip. It's even better than a macro. You are a wizard!!! :)

I ran into one little glitch. I can't figure out how to get the search (find) to search the folder names in addition to the subject line and the body text. Is there a way to do that?
