Is it normal when you start a new email and type a letter ,( say it's Smith Roger ) say 'R'. it doesn't pick it up because it's the second name, even 'Rog' still doesn't work... is this normally the way it works... I did as I read to set this up, went to the TO & CC and added the entire address book. so it works on first letter of Last Name but I thought if I typed in Roger, it should still find it ... it doesn't ... did I do something wrong or is that how Microsoft does it's search /

I have notes here ... there is a little setup required to get Auto-Fill to work the way I like.
If you haven't figured it out yet, post back.

After I do mine, I'll try to help you.

No, didn't work, Microsoft said it's just a Suggestion it doesn't do a search... didn't think that was the way it used to work

NO.

OK, I just got mine setup. When I'm trying to address a new email (in TO or CC fields) ... If I just press the r-key ... I get a whole list of 3 possibilities. I get addresses like Roger Smith, James Roberts, Rainbow Cleaners, etc. That seems correct to me.

Additionally, even with two separate Folders holding Contacts, if I just click the little TO-button, the proper Addressbook appears (and I can select whatever I want). The reason I have two is that one is the main one (with only one dummy contact in it) and the other holds hundreds of my "real contacts" ... coming from and synced to my iCloud Account.

Let me try to document it for my setup-notes (so I can do it again many years from now) and I'll also post it here for you.

Is it normal ...

Setup AddressBook Auto-Complete for Outlook.

In Outlook-2021, this option must be enabled. Options > Mail > Send Messages > Use Auto-Complete.

Then, go to the main Contacts screen.
IF YOU HAVE more than one Folder down the left-side (meaning they are both capable of holding Contacts) ...
Right-click, and select Properties on one of the Contact Folders.
Click to the SECOND-TAB of Properties, and change one of those Outlook AddressBook names a bit (so they are NOT both named just "Contacts"). Now, mine are named "Contacts" and "Contacts iCloud" (because that is where they came from). Don't mess with these names in other places. This step helps in being able to select the proper one in various option-settings.

Now, open the AddressBook from this main screen's upper menu (or press CTRL+Shift+B). Click Tools on its upper menu.
The addressing options will appear. I set it to Custom.
My main AddressBook (contains all my real contacts, hundreds actually) is the one now named "Contacts iCloud", so I make sure it is at the top of the list.
And then (at the very bottom), I also set first-opened to this same "Contacts iCloud" main-one. Click OK-button and close the AddressBook.

If you start a new email and go to address-it ... press a letter and Auto-Complete should be working. If you click the little TO or CC buttons, the full-proper AddressBook should open for you.
