OL16, local install, part of Office16.
Search People box, installed in OL task bar, is now asking me to "press enter' to initiate search. Until about 3 weeks ago (windows update?) it searched while typing.

I have tried rebuilding the index (yes, outlook is checked as an index location), and doing a repair of Office .

file>options>search: display options as query is typed, is checked.

why the sudden demand to 'press enter', and how to get it to search while typing?

What is your build # in file > office account?

You have display results as query is typed enabled? Did you disable it, save then enable it?

It is an option in 2019 and is working -

"display results as query is typed" was disabled and then enabled. no change.

it worked until a few weeks ago. maybe an update broke it?

That would be my guess, except your version doesn't get regular updates. :( I'll see what I can find out.
 
if 'display results as query is typed" is turned off, even by an errant update, might that indicate a setting that controls it, aside from the setting in options? perhaps a reg entry?

i've looked but don't see such a setting. (which should in no way be taken as definitive)
 
The only setting that should control it is the one in options - that can be set using policy so the user can't change it - but you can change the setting. It just doesn't make a difference. I need to boot one of my 2016 machines and see if I can repro.
 
i am seeing an Outlook 'security' update KB5002529 installed on 12/29/31. What do say about uninstalling it? see if that corrects the problem?
 
I noticed today that 'search people' in Outlook, on my laptop, works normally. No need to press enter. KB5002529 is installed on both, so this seems to discount the update causing the problem.

any ideas?
 
Diane, have you had more thoughts about what to look at to rectify the issue?

I uninstalled Outlook today, reinstalled. Issue with asking for 'enter' in Search People continues.
Some office wide setting?
 
where is reg entry for setting "when possible, display results as the query is typed." ? for the 'search people'/'find a contact'.

I notice that find while typing works in the address book window.
