Outlook 2016 will not move emails in search results

My sister-in-law does a search in Outlook and tries to move an email from the search results into a folder. But instead of moving it, it is only copying it.

Any ideas how to fix this?
 
Are you sure its copying it and is not just appears to be copied because the search didn't properly refresh? They definitely should move if she is dragging or using the move to folder command.
 
OK thanks so much for that tip, it led me right to the solution.

Yes you were right, the email WAS being moved.

IT turns out though that the folder she moves the emails into are a subfolder under the same email account, so the search is, correctly, still showing it.

So the fix is that she has to remember to change the search parameter from Current Mailbox, to Current Folder, then it does not show up after it has been moved.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was just wrestling this this exact problem.

Can I change the default search area to "Current folder"? IMHO, "Current mailbox" is a stupid default setting. I just wasted half an hour trying to figure out why Outlook was copying, not moving, emails.

wow I was also making this same rookie mistake and then I followed your advice on this forum and your tip actually worked, so I joined this forum specially to Thank you.
