Outlook 2016 iPhone won't download Outlook 2016 Mail.

iPhone has stopped downloading my inbox from Outlook 2016. In the Mailboxes window I can find some recent Sent mail, but nothing else. Any ideas what causes this hangup? My gmail account downloads properly. I have removed the Outlook.COM account from the phone. Is it required to pass on mail from Outlook?
