Moving "tasks" to inbox in Outlook 2016

I do not use Outlook's to-do feature, but somehow it seems that a chunk of my messages got turned into Outlook "tasks." My attempt to copy and paste these task messages back into my inbox [as regular messages] has failed. Microsoft's instructions at
Move or copy a message between folders don't work for me. What can I do?
 
If the messages are actual tasks, you can't move them back... if they were moved there and are still messages, you can. Do they have a mail or task icon?

Did you check for rules moving mail? This would be the most likely causes.

If all new mail is going there and you are using POP, Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings. Select the account then look at the Change Folder button - is it delivering to the inbox?
