Question about installing my Gmail account on my iPhone but still getting messages downloaded to my desktop Outlook.

I would like to iinstall my Gmail on my iPhone however I don't want messages downloaded on my iPhone and others on my PC. The ideal situation for me would be to have mail downloaded to both devices my iPhone and my computer. I know you can sync mail but I've also read there's a lot of issues and problems doing that, wondering if there's a setting in the Gmail there will keep messages on the server so that they are downloaded to my PC even though I've checked and downloaded some on my iPhone.

Set up input server as POP on all your devices. I do not think you can keep read mail on the server using IMAP, but may be wrong

Yes, That is how this works (I've always had it that way). I think all of us want that, especially if you "live in Outlook" ... you want all messages from you main email accounts to funnel into Outlook (whether you might have had an early peak at them on your iPhone or not).

Is anyone else having problem conneccting to gmail?

Late last night I started to get the Outlook login box every time Outlook 2021 checked the Gmail servers. IN the past with my ISP I would get this same thing and it was always that they were having email issues in my area. Nothing has changed in my settings or to my system so I'm thinking Gmail...

There are required settings in Google Account, Gmail Account, and Outlook Email Account.
 
My Gmail Notes:
- You can use either IMAP or POP3 (in email client) to access your Gmail account . You can allow either or both in gmail.com Settings. I have both Enabled. On mobile devices (iPhone and iPad) I use IMAP. As you know, that's a complete copy of everything in the account (including old emails). Works fine for that. But I don't think I need a whole copy of what's up there stuck in my Outlook PST file (it's big enough already), so I use POP3 in Outlook (and only keep the important emails that come in).
- If you send an email to yourself in Outlook (through the Outlook Account you have setup for Gmail) it shows in Inbox AND Sent Items, in both Outlook and Gmail.com (pretty cool).
- Since Outlook is considered "Less Secure" , in main Google Account Settings / Security (not gmail.com Settings) you must set "Less Secure App Access" to ON. Requires login using Secure Password Auth. (SPA)
- At one time Gmail Account was working without an App Password and I had 2-Step verification OFF. But now, 2-Step Verification is Enabled, and you create this password in main Google Account/Security (not Gmail Settings)
- So, for my iPhone and iPad, this gmail account seems to work as IMAP, but in my desktop Outlook-2016, more like POP3.
