Not enough free memory

MWM

I'm running Office Small Business 2007 - Outlook with BCM Service Pack 2 on a

64 bit machine with 4 gigs of RAM and a 320 gig HDD. So long as BCM is

installed, I keep getting out of memory errors when I open Outlook. I have

uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I have removed ALL add-ins except

for BCM.

This has been going on for some time and seems to have gotten worse with the

most recent security updates for Windows. I can't even use Outlook now

because I can't open my inbox. (Not enough memory). It also appears that

there is a memory leak in BCM (or maybe Outlook) as there is far more memory

in use than the sum of the processes and closing and opening Outlook

continues to reduce the available memory each time. Even so, I still have 2

gb left. It's not out of memory, but Outlook thinks it is.

This seems to be directly related to BCM as removing it solves the

out-of-memory problem
 
Having run further searches, it looks like this is a bug that makes BCM

unuseable. Unfortunately, I have critical business contacts in this database

and this cripples all of my marketing efforts.

I would go back to ACT! but the version I have doesn't run on Vista 64. So

with 2300 contacts dozens of open opportunities, and clients waiting for

solutions, it looks like I made a very poor choice in choosing BCM to run my

small business.

This has apparently been an issue for months and there is no solution or

workaround that I can find. The only workaround is for me to uninstall or

disable BCM, leaving me without any CRM. This wouldn't be totally surprising

to me if I had purchased this from Podunk Software, Inc., but I selected

Microsoft products because I expected that, for the price, I would get better

support. I was wrong.

Any small business looking for a CRM solution should seriously consider ACT!

I cannot say I've experienced any such issues (winxp 2gb, 2007 small

business) not that I actually use BCM much.

You might find it worthwhile to seek MS support, free if you still qualify

or paid for otherwise

Thanks for your response. I forgot to mention that this is running on Vista

Ultimat 64 bit. I have uninstalled Office but now it's running like molasses

after reinstalling.

I've tried the MS support but they want $250. I can just buy another CRM for

that. It really stinks that I have to pay $250 to get support on a broken

product that cost me $250. To boot, I have wasted an entire day uninstalling

and reinstalling 6 times now and still don't have access to my contact. I

know, I'm whining. It's just very disappointing.

Do you have a large PST file in the profile that is running Outlook &

Business contact manager ?

Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig


Go to the startup tab


You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.The fewer things running in the background, the more meory you have for programs.Also, considering investing in more memory. It is not that expensive to add additional memory to a PC.

out-of-memory errors. Terminating additional background tasks has had no

effect on this error. I have even added an additional 4 gb virtual memory.

It's a problem with BCM.

The pst file is relatively large (about 1.6 gb) but it's the new kind that

can go to 8 gb. This is Outlook 2007 so it shouldn't have any problems with a

large pst file. Not only that, it was running the pst file just fine back

when it was at 3 gb. No memory problems. This just appears to be a BCM bug. I

even tried disabling BCM email linking to no avail.

UPDATE: I have reinstalled Office 2007 and BCM but have NOT applied the

security patches or SP-2. It seems to be working OK (just running really

slow). So long as I'm not using SP-2 I don't have the memory problems. In my

case, the service pack is what's causing this problem.

Lesson: never update your software until the update has been out for 6-12

months. I've turned all update features off.

We are aware of a know issue in BCM causing this error , here are some steps

I would like you to try

can you create the DWORD as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907651

Do note : since you are running Outlook 2007 you'll need to check under the

12.0 key

Microsoft Outlook 2002 and earlier versions limit the size of Personal

Folders (PST) file to 2GB. Whenever the PST file reaches or exceeds

that limit, you will not be able to open or load it any more, or you

cannot add any new data to it. This is called oversized PST file

problem. More detailed information can be found at

You can use Advanced Outlook Repair to solve the problem, by either

converting it into Outlook 2003 format ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/convert-2gb-pst.htm

just tried this fix and it made no difference; nb for outlook 2007 in the

registry 12.0 key there isn't a PST section so I created the new DWORD in

"general"

I have had this problem for over 6 months - no-one has a resolution to it.

I am going to buy a mac and get a CRM package on that - I am soooo tee'd off

with Microsoft and pc's.
