scanpst gets freezed

I was advised to use scanpst tool when i had some error poped up when tried to access outlook. while using scanpst it gets freeze and system comes in halt. I dont understand what happens. I am using scanpst on outlook 2003. Last week i was getting some error message when i tried to access outlook hence was advised to use scanpst. Does anyone have any solution for this problem.
