Imap Folders are present, but the inbox folder is empty except for new message

Hello All,

I am currently using Outlook 2007 with Windows 7. I opened my Outlook this morning and when I navigated to my inbox, there were no emails in there. I normally have 500-1000 previously read emails in there. They are all gone, the only emails that are coming in now are the new unread emails. Once opened they stay in there as showing up as read, they do not get removed. Any ideas where the others went, there were not any changes to the settings at all.

Do you open the mailbox on another computer? The most common cause of disappearing mail is using a POP3 account and deleting it from the server.

I have tried going to the server and accessing the web mail via our host. We can access them completely when logging in through the browser, but when going back to Outlook, it shows the folder, but not the contents. The web mail still shows the information in the browser window. I noticed that when I open my Outlook I get the message "Downloading Hierarchy" before all of my emails are available. The pc having the issue doesn't seem to be doing this just going directly to send/receive. Could there be an issue with the personal file? I had this issue a few months back but after about an hour all of the messages were re-downloaded and the status bar at the bottom of the application said Downloading Message 1 of 685. Then they were all there.

It could be the data file. In Outlook 2007, go to File, Data file management. Choose the imap pst file and click open folder - this opens the folder location in Windows Explorer. Close Outlook, wait a couple of minutes then delete the imap data file and restart outlook. It will make a new data file.

Also check these settings in Outlook:

right click on the mailbox name in the folder list (where it probably uses your email address as the data file name) and choose IMAP folders. Click the Query button. Do all folders show up?

Press Ctrl+Alt+S - select the send receive group and click Edit. The first 3 options (Include...., Send..., Get boxes) should be checked. Receive should be checked too, but the options selected under it is more important. If Custom behavior is selected, is the inbox checked?
