Scared to lose data using iCloud with Outlook 2007

What will happen if I de-select contacts, calendars, and tasks on the iCould Control Panel?

I tried syncing my outlook calendar to the iCloud, but what seemed to happen was it moved all the appointments to the iCloud and when I'm viewing my local calendar it's empty. I want it back to my local computer so I thought of de-selecting on iCloud the contacts, calendar, etc. By doing that, will put everything back to normal in my Outlook?
 
If you deselect the option you should be asked if you want to keep a copy locally - if you say yes, everything should be copied back. A copy will remain in the cloud and on your device.

If you don't trust the iCloud, you can move (or copy) everything back to the Outlook folders before deselecting it. (Use a list view in the calendar, Ctrl+A to select all, then drag or copy)

Yes, once that is done, you should be back to normal.

In my mind, the best protection is to close Outlook and backup .PST file.

As for iCloud Control Panel 2.x ...

I've tested un-checking Outlook in iCCP, (and selecting "keep copy") and it does seem to put items back to default location (see my other post/blog-entry about it). However, I still had a PST file backup as safety net.

A related thing I noticed lately ... I've read about Signing-out and Signing back in as "quick fix" for some iCCP issues. However, when I attempted it the other day ... it was asking the same questions (just like un-checking Outlook). Seems a bit extreme so I didn't try it (canceled out of it). Turned out to not be the issue anyway.

I could be wrong, but I think if Sign Out/In is a fix for anything ... you can just shut-down computer for a while ... seems like that would be the same to the cloud.
