I am just wondering if I did this right?

I decided to stay with IMAP.

Due to being on SAT DISH internet, I don't want Outlook to check for new mail in " man made" folders, to save data.

And also the 2nd reason is that my email isn't filtered until I open Outlook

So I did this:

Went to the SEND / Receive tab

Clicked on Send / Receive Groups

Clicked on Define Send / Receive groups

I hit the Edit button

On the left side of the screen clicked on the email account in question

All 3 boxes are checked in the middle ( Send mail, Get folder unread count, Receive mail items)

But, I selected the button that says " Use Custom Behavior defined below"

Checked Inbox

unchecked drafts, sent, trash, notes, Archives, & all personal folders that i've made

Checked Spam

Thanks,
Chris

Chris; Does your email provider have a web interface? If you get a lot of unnecessary big attachment email, you could delete from the web interface without downloading. The allure of IMAP for me is having my email and folders stored, accessible and usable securely online AND having this synchronize on my local PC hard drive.

I feel your pain as I am on satellite internet (after being on an unlimited high-speed internet). Does email take a big data bite? (or gigabyte in this case : ) For me, email do snot use a lot of data. The culpret is my wife's penchant for high-resolution video on Netflix (which she enjoys, so it's worth the money).
Her and I both turn off devices, or internet or unplug Ethernet cables when a device is not in use.

The biggest data culpert for me was Dropbox. For years, I paid for extra storage as a place to back-up my data. I would think nothing of using it to move files between two side-by-side computers. I replaced dropbox with a multi terabyte external harddrive to do backups and a 1TB SansDisk USB thumb drive that holds all my data in an encrypted form.

Yes and No on attachments.

Exactly. I hate having multiple backups of all the different email client's that i've tried over the years.
