outlook 2010 changes text tab position when sending

Hi All, I hope you are well.

ive got an odd problem.

outlook 2010 on win 7 64 using hosted exchange.

when customer writes an email in either html mode or rich text, and uses tabs to format the text it looks fine before sending. once sent, the columns don't line up. and by sent I mean ithey don't line up even if you look at the sent email in their sent box. it also doesn't line up when I receive the email in my inbox

ive tried removing signature, resetting the tabs but it doesn't make any difference. I cant find any info on this on t'internet.

I can use tables to preserve the columns but id like to know why the tabs change and how to fix it please!
 
id better qualify my first post:
what they are trying to do is simply send a 2 column summary of a job cost, so

install kitchen £300
parts £1500
other stuff £600
install kitchen £300
parts £1500
other stuff £600

it ends up looking like this:

install kitchen £300
parts £1500
other stuff £600
install kitchen £300
parts £1500
other stuff £600
