Greetings,
I have been using Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2013 here at work for a while now with no problems. We are anticipating moving to Exchange Online (only the Exchange server is being upgraded, not our Office products, which are still 2016).
I stuck with 2010 because I can't stand the newer minimalist GUIs on most software, including the MS Office products starting with 2013.
Has anyone successfully set up Outlook 2010 to work with Exchange Online?
Another option I would consider is to find another email client that still has that nice "old school" GUI that would work with Exchange Online (which means full integration as much as possible - global address book, calendars, etc). I looked at Thunderbird briefly, and the latest version looks awful, and they removed support for "full themes" in versions after 61.x. (Current version is 78.x)
It's sad that options for GUI themes and other GUI tweaks are disappearing over time. I like to personalize my applications when I can.
