I have a friend who runs Outlook 2010 as IMAP on Windows 7 and is thinking of either buying a new PC with Win 10 OR keeping his PC and doing an in-situ upgrade from Win 7 to 10.
I realize Outlook 2010 is no longer supported so he may upgrade to Outlook 2019.
Firstly If he buys a new Pc what files does he need to backup and Import to the new installation to ensure he keeps his extensive folder structure in the Navigation pane and all of his Contacts and emails? Does he need to move the .pst file/files as well or will it automatically sync all his emails, calendar, etc?
Secondly, If we do a Win 7 to Win 10 upgrade on his current machine, will Outlook display and work exactly as it was in Win 7 with no other files having to be backed up or renamed, etc? He has 1000's of emails saved to the disk and the machine is probably coming to the end of its life.
I have read extensively many articles via Google and in particular by Diane Poremsky on this site and I am quite PC literate but do not use Outlook just Outlook.com and Gmail so I need to make sure the 'transfer' goes smoothly.
(I am recommending that he upgrades to Win 10 and a newer version of Outlook.)
A clear step-by-step guide would be much appreciated with not too much being assumed.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
