Dropdown address list missing

I recently cleaned up my Outlook 2016 files. The results were good, but when I start a new email I don't get the drop-down address list I was used to. The names are in the Contacts file, but from poking around in this forum, I can't find any references beyond Outlook 2010. What procedures will work to restore the "nickname" file (?) to 2016? Thanks.
