Email being marked as Spam by Gmail and not being visible in Outlook

I've been using Gmail via Outlook for some time with no problems. I have Office 365 and my Gmail is attached by the default method. However I've just caught Gmail marking random (as far as I can see) emails as junk and putting them in a junk folder which seems not to be visible from Outlook. The folder says that any messages left in it are deleted after 30 days so I can't see how long this has been going on for. Outlook seems to list the same folders as are shown by Gmail (accessed via Chrome) but the Junk E-mail folder remains empty on Outlook. I've see similar posts but not quite this specific issue! Help!
 
Is the gmail account added as imap? If so, right click on the inbox, choose imap folders... then click Query. Is the junk mail folder subscribed? In gmail, it's called Spam and is under the [gmail] folder.

Hi. The address is added via POP3 which I think was the automatic default when I set it up. I can see folders with the same names in Chrome and in Outlook but the outlook version of the Junk E-mail folder remains stubbornly empty! Now I've deleted or moved all the junk I will have to wait for the next e-mail to be blocked to investigate further! I have Norton 360 on my desktop and phone - I wonder if that is being over-protective!
 
It should be going into Junk Email folder unless Norton uses one called Spam. Is just mail filtering enabled? Open a message sent to the gmail account then look for the junk mail button on the ribbon - open Junk Mail options.

Nothing odd there.
I've been monitoring my Gmail account from Chrome and now realise that their is a folder labelled "Spam" there as well as "Junk E-mail" and "Norton AntiSpam Folder". The Gmail "Spam" folder is now receiving definite spam email and is definitely not shown in Outlook! Can I add it to Outlook without resetting everything?!
 
The spam folder is not under [gmail] folder in outlook? If not, right click on a folder, choose IMAP folders... then click Query and subscribe to it. It should not affect any other folder, just add this to the ones that sync.
