Recurrence pattern blank on recurring meetings?

I have a calendar in Outlook 365 for birthdays (all annual events). All events are yearly recurring. Some show up with the recurring icon, some are a little calendar with a dot. The ones with the recurring icon display a recurrence pattern when viewed as a list, the ones with the dot icon do not show a recurrence pattern (they all definitely have recurrence set). Any ideas why this would happen?

Are they on a different calendar? Everything on the Birthday calendar recurs yearly. The events will just have the birthdate.

All on the same calendar, and while they represent birthdays, they aren't outlook birthdays from contacts. They are all the same exact kind of event. Some have recurrent patterns, some don't. They also are also all set to no reminder, but I get 3 different values for Remind Beforehand, 0, 900, 1080.

Every one of them. If I dbl click on them, it asks me if I want to open the event or the series. And they all have "edit occurrence" next to the recurrence pattern that shows when the event window is open.
