Hello all,

Only with *some* external incoming emails, whenever they have a outlook item attachment like msg or ics, we can open the attachment, but it shows up as a completely blank message - usually also with much less size as if it was stripped. However, our TrendMicro doesn't show any issue.

I've also tested this by sending an appointment to a gmail and a yahoo account. From each of these accounts I forwarded the message as is back to my exchange account. Gmail shows no problems at all, but yahoo does just like described above..

Here is one example of a message which has just one attachment being another outlook message. While the title of the attached email is correctly shown, the size shows as 64B only..

External incoming meeting requests also show up as blank messages (not meeting requests).

Could you please help me?

Thanks

When you check and forward the yahoo mail, do you look at the account using a browser or outlook? I'm thinking its a TNEF problem - gmail can handle TNEF and the forwarded attachment may be slightly changed when it forwards it. AFAIK, yahoo can't handle TNEF. I'm guessing Trend is dropping the TNEF encoded items.

nothing in the header stands out and it looks like the message itself is html.

Hello Slipstick,

Thanks for your answer already - I did check it through the outlook client. I was also thinking TNEF, but I'm just surprised it's only happening for a few weeks now while nothing has changed configuration-wise.

Also, these issues only happen to some sending mail servers, not all. But I'll check with TrendMicro again then - thanks!

Can you put a date on "few weeks" ? It's possible an update (to the AV, outlook, and/or windows) is at fault.

We're seeing some issues with the update last week - mostly just sending though. Another poster in this forum had a problem with missing bodies Since (I beleive) aug 4.

Does the problem occur if you use safe mode? If it goes away in safe mode it almost always means AV or similar content scanner.
