Cannot Connect to BCM Database

Hello,

Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager

I have lost connection to my BCM database and am trying to reestablish, but

am having problems.

When I open Outlook, I receive the following message:

"This action cannot be completed because Business Contact Manager cannot

access the database. Service MSSQL$MSSMLBIZ was not found on computer."

I installed SQL Server Express 2005 and restored my original BCM database to

it. It is under [COMPUTERNAME]\SQLEXPRESS. The database and service are

running and I can see the tables, etc. in the database. When I try to change

the data file under Account Settings in Outlook, I choose Select an existing

database. I then enter [COMPUTERNAME]\SQLEXPRESS and click Connect. The

drop-down box finds the database. The problem is that when I click Next, I

get the following message:

"Cannot connect to the database. Please click Retry. If the issue recurs,

click Help."

I have done some research and it seems that this issue occurs when

connecting to a remote database on a computer that is not online. The

problem is that I am attempting to connect to a database on my local PC,

which is online.

At this point, I am not sure what to do. I haven't been able to get into BCM

in over a week now. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Chris

The database needs to be on an instance called MSSMLBIZ, not the

default SQLEXPRESS instance.

You could try changing BCM's instance in the Registry to SQLEXPRESS.

Luther,

Thanks for the reply. I had tried before to install another instance, but

relized i had the wrong name. I installed another called MSSMLBIZ and

re-attached the database. It's now working great. Thanks a lot.

We have setup the database remotely, ran the connection wizard and used the

temporary password. We tried connecting to the remote database using the

temporary password but it still says it can't change the password on the

remote machine to connect.
