Sending sms message via Outlook 2010 issue

Hi all,

I've setup SMS sending\ receiving on my Outlook 2010 account, all is fine.

I have 2 problems:

1. Is there a way to send SMS messages (via Outlook 2010) without having a contact in Outlook? e.g.: when i type a number it pops up the check name window. (i know that replying to an SMS message works if there is no contact)

2. How can i create a rule that all incoming SMS messages are moved to a different folder in my outlook mailbox?

2. you need to look for the IPM message type. I'll look it up in the morning if you can't find it.
 
1. do i need to type the whole number? like: +12125556969 ? well, it does not work.

2.i did find the IPM message type: IPM.Note.Mobile.SMS and IPM.Note.Mobile.MMS i have no idea how to use it with an outlook 2010 rule.
 
1. I don't know. My SMS provider does that on the backend AFAIk. (I use Bulletin.) I select 'send sms' and it uses the bulletin account to send (which displays my cell phone # as the From address, beginning with 1) I either type the 10 digit number or select it from the address book when i press To and they handle the rest. (Address book only displays the contacts with cell phone #.)

2. There is a rule option to check message class - you'd enter the ipm type in that field.

i think i know what's my problem but i have no idea how to solve it.

I'm using Samsung Galaxy S2 and i have my exchange mailbox synced to it (Microsoft Exchange Activesync). I marked the option to sync SMS via the mobile. I don't have an account setup on Outlook.

How do i use message class in this situation?
 
I dont not haveing the account setup in Outlook makes a diff. Add the Message class field to the view - do they use IPM.note or something else?

Create a rule that looks for the message class and move them to a new folder.

Check messages on arrival > uses the form name > select text message from the bottom of the list of Application forms.

I can't find this form in the Forms Manager so I can't verify it's name matches the IPM you see - but it's worth a try. Filters and views allow direct input of the ipm name but rules don't.
 
Well, though i don't have a complete solution, i have found that i can create a search folder and put it in favorites, thus allowing me to search for all my text messages.

Unless someone has a better idea or solution, i'll have to settle for this...
 
In re-reading this thread to refresh my memory, it looks like you are syncing the text messages the phone sends? That could explain why you couldn't filter on the message class.

The search folder is an excellent idea.
